When it sounds too good to be true… It is but also isn’t.

When it sounds too good to be true… It is but also isn’t.

Making money as a scooter charger is and was a real way to make good money for fairly simple work. In the beginning you could make several hundred dollars daily, now you could make maybe a hundred dollars in a day by working a lot longer per day. So yes it was really good money working as a scooter charger, and then it changed when the business model (for Spin, Bird, Lime) adjusted to become actually profitable. Companies like Bird don’t care about the people who work for them, what matters is finding a way to become a profitable business.

Spin hires people and offers a solid starting wage and bonus structure at first, then as operation model changes and challenges are presented what an employee can earn shifts down fast. After the adjustments working for Spin became an okay job with so so pay, then they will terminate employment changing direction into something less lucrative for workers.

Bird and Lime started with earnings as high as $15-20 per scooter found and charged, then shifted rates to as low as $2-3. When that change became a reality the profitability of the work became nonexistent. Yes, you can work as a contractor and collect then charge scooters and maybe make $15-20 a hour gross revenue although when you start to account for gas, vehicle expenses, electricity, and taxes you will realize you end up earning barely minimum wage (inconsistently).

I loved making good money for simple easy work, and now working as a charger is just another basic barely minimum wage job. Reality can be an annoying wakeup call worth listening to. If you’re considering becoming a scooter charger for Spin, Bird, or Lime keep in mind that it is a side gig for small side income and not a long term income source.
